Malt extract is a different product. Whole grain is crushed, hot water is added and its strach content is converted into sugar. A concentrated viscous liquid or fired powder form is obtained depending on the end application.
Malt extract is used as a coloring and flavoring agent biscuits, breakfast cereals, chocolates and ice creams.
MALT EXTRACT PRODUCTION PROCESS




Firstly, barley is classified according to its granular size and seperated from foreign particles. Then it is moisturized by adding water and prepared for germination phase. Germination phase is completed by increasing the moisture content. As the enzyme activity of the grains increases their size gets smaller. At the final stage grains are seperated from leaftes, dried and roasted.
Senson Malt is essentially a family business. Oy Lahden Polttimo Ab, its affiliate company, was founded in 1883 and still has a malt production facility when it was established in Lahti, Finland. The company is currently managed by the fifth generation. The Swedish Farmers Association Lantmännen also has a small share in the company.
